Bitstream Evolution (v1 iCEstick)

This is the original version of the Bitstream Evolution project, which was designed for the iCEstick FPGA development board. The iCEstick was a low-cost (originally $25, although now $150), entry-level FPGA platform that allows for rapid prototyping and experimentation with evolvable hardware concepts. This version of the project serves as a foundation for our ongoing research and development in the field of evolvable hardware, and has been used to demonstrate the feasibility of evolving functional FPGA designs directly on the hardware.

The project is being sunset in favor of the newer pico2-ice port, which offers improved performance and features. However, the original iCEstick version remains available for reference and educational purposes, and may still be used for certain experiments or applications where the iCEstick's capabilities are sufficient.
